If you’ve read our previous blog posts, you know that the group stages and the quarterfinals were played online, each team from their own arcade facility in France, Belgium and… Israël! While these early stages of the tournament where played, we kept track of the results via our official Toornament page. After two weeks of competition, 4 teams qualified in the semi-finals : Piou Piou (Besançon), REIV (Bordeaux), TDS (Paris) and Arcade VR (Pau). The semi-finals and finals took place in Paris, during the Paris Games Week fair.
Meet the EVA stadium
That was a world first! Remaining participants competed in the first VR esports stadium ever built, EVA, specifically designed to host virtual reality competitions. This stadium totaled 1200m2 and included a 500m2 playground, 500 sits, an imposing desk for casters and 3 hanging LED screens (5x3m). Did someone say impressive?!

Used to train and play competitively on After-H arcade maps (The Cliff, Coliseum and Ruins Bay), a completely new challenge was awaiting the semi-finalists. For the first time, they were going to fight in free-roaming and on a brand new map (Ceres) that was created from scratch to fit the size of the EVA stadium playground. Now, let’s have a closer look at the matches…
Semi Finals
The first teams to step on the playground were the Piou Piou from Besançon and the REIV from Bordeaux. First game was won by REIV, but the Piou Piou weren’t going to let them snatch the victory that easily and equalized. At the end of a very tight match ball, REIV managed to qualify for the finals!
PIOU PIOU vs REIV
The Parisians, TDS, and Arcade VR (AVR) from Pau then played each other to secure their spot in the finals. Unfortunately for the AVR, the task was not easy since they were facing the After-H champions! After two games, TDS team won this BO3 hands down.
ARCADE VR vs Team TDS
AVR joined the Piou Piou team in the match for 3rd place : another BO3 on the menu! This one was won 2 to 0 by the Piou.
Finals
Time for REIV and TDS to fight for the champions title and the 3 000€ of cashprize! We noticed in the previous stages of the tournament that REIV had given a hard time to other participants. As a result, everyone was looking forward to the REIV vs. TDS clash!
At the end of a breathtaking BO3, the TDS finally won, therefore keeping their title of After-H champions. The REIV players are now waiting for one thing: a new opportunity to face the TDS. They should be able to get their revenge during our next championships…
Recap of the Final Phase Results
If VR esports are just in their early stages, we are looking forward to rise the level at every tournament we host. Using tools such as Toornament allowed us to improve the structure of the competition, and we are eager to build bigger championships – and hopefully a league – over time. We’re happy to see that various actors from the esport scene, such as people at Toornament and many streamers, youtubers and casters also believe in VR esports.
“At Toornament, we believe that VR can bring great competitions to the players and fans with new interactions, new ways of competing. We are truly proud to help EVA with our technology and expertise dedicated to esports. We are happy to ensure that our technology serves all platforms: PC, consoles, mobile, VR and the ones to come.”
– Michael Daudignon, Marketing Director at Toornament
Organizing the very first VR esports competition on the EVA stadium is a true pride. Not only because it considerably enhances the athletes experience; but also because it opens new possibilities for esports shows. We’re now writing the next chapters of this story! Keep posted…
